About a matron of a small Southern town, with a son she wants to keep to herself, instead of allowing him to find his true love for marriage. She has 2 old female cronies she confides in, and they snicker that Vada, the Mother, had it coming, when son brings home the new wife. There is a 10 year gap of time in Act 2, when Vada feigns a heart attack, and asks her son to plan her funeral, then proceeds to tell him exactly what to do.
